Jone at Check It Out is hosting the Poetry Friday Roundup today. If you’d like to know more about Poetry Friday, click HERE for an explanation by Renee LaTulippe.

Hello, Great Readers of our series! Just In case you haven’t visited before, let me tell you a little about A Great Nephew and A Great Aunt. My great nephew, Landon (a seventh-grader) and I (his great aunt) collaborate. I write a poem which he illustrates. We started this collaboration in the fall of 2014 and have had so much fun with it that we decided to invite others along. Landon and I will continue to have a new episode on the second Friday of each month. The other Fridays are filling up quickly with guests. I have created a page on my website to view all the episodes of A Great Nephew and a Great Aunt. Click HERE to visit the page and enjoy past episodes.
With today’s collaboration, Landon and I are wishing you a belated Happy Valentine’s Day or maybe an early Happy Halloween. If that seems confusing, I think you’ll get it once you read the poem and see the illustration. (And just so you know…Landon did not hide an object in today’s art.)

Landon’s Art

Thanks so much for joining us today. I appreciate all of you who read this series. See you next week when I’ll have guest collaborators.
Yes! I’ll be your Valenstein! ❤ If the poem doesn't snag your heart, the illustration sure will!

A bit more developed and it could be a picture book. 🙂

Thanks, Brenda. I’ve thought about a picture book but I’m not sure where to go with it so I’m keeping it as a poem for now.

Sometimes it’s a scene that I’ve loved, but this is a full and wonderful story, Penny, with another terrific illustration by Landon. I hope it will turn into a fun Halloween and/or Valentine’s Day picture book.

Oh, poor old Frankenstein! Thankfully he does eventually find his bride (according to the movies, anyway) – there’s someone out there for everyone! 🙂

Love the poem and drawing! Perfect for Valentine’s Day! p.s. What a great line, “Love my brain from Victor’s jar?” LOL!

That’s my favorite line too, Robin. I always think of the movie Young Frankenstein and the brains that were ready and waiting.

This collaboration is one of my favorites. This poem is adorable and witty and Landon of course pulled off his magic too. He came up with the idea and completed the picture all within an hour and a half. Not fair right?!

Thanks, Landon’s mom! This is what amazes me about Landon. His creativity is exceptional. He doesn’t just draw a picture…he brings a story to what he draws! It is magic!!!
