Jone at Check It Out is hosting the Poetry Friday Roundup today. If you’d like to know more about Poetry Friday, click HERE for an explanation by Renee LaTulippe.
Hello, Great Readers of our series! Just In case you haven’t visited before, let me tell you a little about A Great Nephew and A Great Aunt. My great nephew, Landon (a seventh-grader) and I (his great aunt) collaborate. I write a poem which he illustrates. We started this collaboration in the fall of 2014 and have had so much fun with it that we decided to invite others along. Landon and I will continue to have a new episode on the second Friday of each month. The other Fridays are filling up quickly with guests. I have created a page on my website to view all the episodes of A Great Nephew and a Great Aunt. Click HERE to visit the page and enjoy past episodes.
My great niece, Kennedy, is collaborating with me today. It’s her first time in the series and I’m excited to share her talent.

Thanks so much for joining us today. I appreciate all of you who read this series. See you next week when I’ll have guest collaborators.
How perfect. Kennedy’s detail is the best. She captured your poem.

What a perfect poem and drawing for the Christmas season, I just love how your poem builds. It takes a team to lift Santa’s sleigh, and it takes a great team to make such wonderful art/poetry. Happy Holidays!

Kennedy says
“Thank you all for the great compliments! They made me feel really recognized and appreciated! I enjoyed getting to draw for Penny!”
Yes, you all had such kind words for Kennedy! Thank you!

The holiday spirit filled me up with this collaboration between you and Kennedy, Penny. I will share with the grand-girls, who will love to “sing” that song, especially “Nine, just right, for a Christmas flight.” They will be inspired to draw a few reindeer too from Kennedy’s fun drawing!

So glad the holiday spirit came across in our collaboration. There is nothing better than kids at Christmas! If your grand-girls draw reindeer, please send me photos 🙂 I’d love the see them.

So much talent in your family! I love Kennedy’s drawing (and seeing her at work.) And your poem is as bouncy as…reindeer!

Thanks, Buffy. I have three creative sisters and I think we all did our best to pass down creative talents. And Kennedy’s mom who married my sister’s son is super creative and encourages that in her kids.
The photos Kennedy’s parents shared of her working are priceless. And I’m glad I nailed the bouncy rhythm 🙂

What a dilemma for Santa, but good ole Rudolf comes to the rescue again. Such a cute poem. Kennedy did such an amazing work of art. I noticed how she did the reindeer just right.

Yes. The reindeer look like they’re getting ready to take flight. She illustrated that action wonderfully.

Precious! Love the long art piece and the build up in the poem to the end. I imagine it as a song.

I imagined it as a song too, Margaret. In fact, singing it helped with small tweaks. I was amazed at how Kennedy kept perspective with the long art piece!

Loved this collaboration! Very festive and I admire Kennedy’s dedication–that wasn’t a small illustration she created, ensuring each reindeer was in the picture! Beautiful work, both!
