Hello, Great Readers of our series! Just In case you haven’t visited before, let me tell you a little about A Great Nephew and A Great Aunt. My great nephew, Landon (a sixth-grader) and I (his great aunt) collaborate. I write a poem which he illustrates. We started this collaboration in the fall of 2014 and have had so much fun with it that we decided to invite others along. Landon and I will continue to have a new episode on the second Friday of each month. The other Fridays are filling up quickly with guests. I have created a page on my website to view all the episodes of A Great Nephew and a Great Aunt. Click HERE to visit the page and enjoy past episodes.

By the way, April is National Poetry Month, so Happy National Poetry Month!

It’s the second Friday of the month so and Landon and I are collaborating. Enjoy!

Special Treat: Time Lapse of Landon at Work

As usual, Landon’s illustration made a splash! with me 😀 And his hidden object is easily found this week. I guess he thought we all needed a break after searching for eight of the hidden object in the last episode involving a shopping spider!

Thanks so much for joining us today. I appreciate all of you who follow this series. See you next week for more collaboration.

  1. I love your playful poem, Penny! All those wonderful ick and unk sounds… I can hear your poem bouncing across the water. Landon’s illo is also spectacular, as always. I love all the texturizing he does and what a treat to see him at work in the video!

    1. Thanks, Michelle. I like the way you describe my poem…bouncing across the water 🙂
It was so interesting to me to watch Landon in the video. I imagine the texturing is what helps his illustration come to life and have action. It just amazes me!

  2. Landon is my new favorite artist. I think I see a guitar in his splash. Is he hiding things or am I just imagining them?

    1. I’m sure Landon is happy to know he’s your new favorite artist. He does hide one thing in every drawing, but it’s not a guitar . . . and it’s not so hidden in this drawing.

This riddle should give you a clue:

      I wear yellow clothes.
      I have graphite toes.

      My top hat is pink
      —mistakes make it shrink.

      I’m an artist’s utensil.
      I am a ___________!

      1. I hope you got my email. I forgot to mention about K’s art that he’s hidden a second face in the picture somewhere. He challenged me to see if I could find it, and I did. I don’t know if it’s possible in the scan.

  3. Landon was so excited to do a time lapse video of his drawing this time. His ripples in the water are my favorite part. Great poem Penny!!

  4. Fun poem, Penny! Hmmm I’ve come across two skipping stone themes already today. Maybe the universe is trying to tell me something??

    1. Robin…I think I could teach you if we ever had the time…plus some perfect stones and a nice pond or lake. Or your stone’s autobiography could be shorter:

      I’m perfectly picked.
      Then skillfully flicked.
      Ker-plunk!
      I’m sunk.

Here’s my confession. When I first wrote the poem I had many more “skips.” Then felt like that was exaggerating my abilities, so I backed down to just four!
