Hello, Great Readers of our series! Just In case you haven’t visited before, let me tell you a little about A Great Nephew and A Great Aunt. My great nephew, Landon (a sixth-grader) and I (his great aunt) collaborate. I write a poem which he illustrates. We started this collaboration in the fall of 2014 and have had so much fun with it that we decided to invite others along. Landon and I will continue to have a new episode on the second Friday of each month. The other Fridays are filling up quickly with guests. I have created a page on my website to view all the episodes of A Great Nephew and a Great Aunt. Click HERE to visit the page and enjoy past episodes.

It’s the second Friday of March and Landon is back! Enjoy our collaboration.

The Artlandon's spider art

I always look forward to Landon’s interpretations of my poems. I pictured a spider shopping for eight of each item. Landon didn’t put eight of every item in the cart. But . . .  there are eight of one special item. That item would be the object that Landon hides in each of his illustrations for this series! See if you can locate all eight. I’m still looking for the eighth one 😀

Thanks so much for joining us today. I appreciate all of you who read this series. See you next week for more collaboration.

  1. Another great collaboration. At first I only found 7 pencils, but then I read the comments and found #8. I can so relate to that tuckered out spider, shopping is hard work!

  2. I’m guessing Landon likes Where’s Waldo? I found only six pencils, but I think my eyes are going. And I did see a strange pink blob that could have been an eraser or could have been a tiny Martian. I like how he slots them into furniture like the highlights hidden pictures do. The spider has a quite an emotional range for such a tiny creature. He is really turning into a great illustrator. And I like your poem, too.

  3. Such talent, cleverness, in both poem and drawing. I had to look at the picture a long time to find even one pencil. Once I did, I counted 7. Is the other one upside down so all we see is the eraser?

  4. Good job, Landon! I could not find an arachnid amount of pencils either, but it was fun trying. Whew, how’d she get all that stuff in a shopping cart? What a concept!

  5. Love the poem. I was expecting an octopus, sooooo…. Spider! Shocker! I was excited to see Landon back and looking forward to finding the pencil. Then I read that there are EIGHT of them….. but glasses on, eyes bugging out, I only see seven… 😦 GAH!

  6. Yep, I was expecting eight spiders, too, until I scrolled down and saw one spider on the cart handle. Highly creative interpretation, Landon! Love the 8 little pencils tucked in the cart. 🙂
