Hello, Great Readers of our series! Just In case you haven’t visited before, let me tell you a little about A Great Nephew and A Great Aunt. My great nephew, Landon (a sixth-grader) and I (his great aunt) collaborate. I write a poem which he illustrates. We started this collaboration in the fall of 2014 and have had so much fun with it that we decided to invite others along. Landon and I will continue to have a new episode on the second Friday of each month. The other Fridays are filling up quickly with guests.
I have created a page on my website to view all the episodes of A Great Nephew and a Great Aunt. Click HERE to visit the page and enjoy past episodes.
Today it is my pleasure to share a creative collaboration from . . .
Nancy Raines Day and Great Granddaughter, McKenna
From Nancy: It’s been a fun collaboration. Since we both love to swim and wish we were mermaids, I suggested that topic. She got right to work and produced this picture and several others. After I read my poem to her, she decided to add the seaweed.
The Poem
The Art

And here are the proud collaborators!
Many thanks to Nancy and McKenna for this delightful collaboration!
Meet McKenna: McKenna is 5 and just started kindergarten. She loves to draw more than anything. She learned how to swim underwater this summer and has asked for a mermaid tail for Christmas.
Meet Nancy: Nancy Raines Day’s first book The Lion’s Whiskers: An Ethiopian Folktale (Scholastic) was one of five picture books designated a New York Times Notable Book in 1995. Her latest (ninth), What in the World? Numbers in Nature (Beach Lane Books) was favorably reviewed in the New York Times Book Review this fall. Learn more about Nancy and her books on her Website and Facebook Author Page.
Thanks to Buffy for hosting the Poetry Friday Roundup today at Buffy’s Blog. She just happens to be featuring my first published work today—a poem titled Buttons. If you’d like to know more about Poetry Friday, click HERE for an explanation by Renee LaTulippe.
So cute! But no thank you. I avoid the bathtub as much as I can!
