Hello, Great Readers of our series! Just In case you haven’t visited before, let me tell you a little about A Great Nephew and A Great Aunt. My great nephew, Landon (a fifth-grader) and I (his great aunt) collaborate. I write a poem which he illustrates. We started this collaboration last fall and have had so much fun with it that we decided to invite others along. Landon and I will continue to have a new episode on the second Friday of each month. The other Fridays are filling up quickly with guests.
Since today is the second Friday of June, Landon and I have a new episode and . . .guess what??? We switched places!! No! I did NOT do the art! Are you crazy?? Have you seen my stick man? So, no, that would NOT be a good idea. Here’s the switch: Instead of one of my poem’s providing the inspiration for a Landon illustration, one of his drawings provided the inspiration for a Penny poem. As soon as his mom posted his SUPER drawing on Facebook, I was SUPER inspired to zoom off and write a poem.
A SUPER fun fact: This drawing includes every member of Landon’s SUPER family, the Staples.
So here we go.
Episode 14: Super Staples
The Art

See why I was SUPER inspired???
The Poem
By the way, I mentioned in the last episode that Landon has a recurring object in most of his illustrations? The object isn’t in Episodes #1 or #8, but it is in all the others. Do you see it today?
I have created a page on my website to view all the episodes of A Great Nephew and a Great Aunt. Click HERE to visit the page and enjoy our guests episodes as well as our past episodes.
We hope you have a SUPER day and we look forward to having you for future episodes!
Jama Rattigan, who always serves up a SUPER feast, has the Poetry Friday Roundup today at Jama’s Alphabet Soup. Head on over and indulge!
Is the object a pencil? I’m late, so I can say it, right? 😉 Great poem and picture! 😀

This is such an original weekly post. I really love it. And, I liked the switch. Landon is a really talented artist, and I loved you wacky poem. What is facepalm?

Thanks, Pat. I have had so much fun with this series! “facepalm”…I’m thinking that Diane was referring to how we put our palm on our forehead when we figure something out that seems so obvious once we figure it out. That’s my take on “facepalm.” 🙂

Ooh, Ooh, Ooh, (jumping around on one foot) I got it, I got it, I got it. I won’t tell you it took me a couple of visits through all the previous posts to finally get it… lol. (facepalm) This is a really fun post. And what do you mean you can’t draw??? You should have a go and Landon can write the poem. hehehe! 😉

So glad you found it, Diane. I think it’s so clever of him to think of doing it 🙂

I like it! I especially like “Take that you creeps!” It made me laugh. I also like the idea of swapping roles. My granddaughter, who is quite the little artist, did a very nice clay sculpture that is crying out to me for a poem. I hope I can accomplish that one day soon. Thanks for all your inspiring posts.

You should definitely write that poem, Rosi! Landon and I are swapping roles for next month’s post, too. That kid is constantly creating!

That’s quite the family! Great tribute from both of you. Can you imagine years down the line, a great grandson Staples happening upon these drawings and poems? Wouldn’t that be amazing?

I had never thought of my office supplies in an ‘open-carry’ way. I’ll won’t able to look at my transparent tape stash in the glove compartment the same way again! Terrific switcheroo!

Oh the things you can do with that transparent tape stash! I can see the headlines now! “Scotch-Girl sticks it to villain and saves the day!”

You two are just an all around SUPER duo! All of yours and Landon’s collaborations have been brilliant, but this has got to be my favorite so far! I also see the object. How clever of him to do this right from the start!

I see it! I see the recurring object. I don’t want to WRITE what is it. The POINT is I WOOD spoil it for the other readers since I’m the first commenter. I think they’re SHARP enough to see it for themselves. So fun!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
