Hello, Great Readers of our series! Just In case you haven’t visited before, let me tell you a little about A Great Nephew and A Great Aunt. My great nephew, Landon (a fifth-grader) and I (his great aunt) collaborate. I write a poem which he illustrates. We started this collaboration last fall and have had so much fun with it that we decided to invite others along. Landon and I will continue to have a new episode on the second Friday of each month. The other Fridays are filling up quickly with guests. Since today is the second Friday of May, Landon and I have a new episode!
For this episode, I wrote a story in haiku, which Landon illustrated brilliantly. Although haiku is rarely titled, I couldn’t help myself 🙂
Episode 13:
Haiku Achoo
The Poem
Landon’s Art

I laughed so hard when I saw Landon’s illustration. What a sneeze!
By the way, have you noticed that Landon has a recurring object in his illustrations? The object isn’t in the first episode or Crumbled, but it is in all the others. Keep your eyes peeled!
I have created a page on my website to view all the episodes of A Great Nephew and a Great Aunt. Click HERE to visit the page and enjoy our guests episodes as well as our past episodes.
Thanks so much for visiting today. We look forward to having you for future episodes!
Michelle Heidenrich Barnes has the Poetry Friday Roundup today at Today’s Little Ditty.

Landon has a great future ahead of him illustrating! And your poems were perfectly hilarious, Penny. Was the recurring object something that starts with pen? And ends with cil? LOL That’s my guess anyway.

Ha! Your guess is right on, Brenda 😀

I thought I remembered another one is a previous illustration. Reminds me of Goodnight, Moon. My kids used to love to find the mouse in each picture. 😀

What a great picture. Perfect for your cute haiku story. I thought I had found the hidden object, but could not find it in the crime scene picture. I’m stumped.

Oh, Rosi, you’re right! It is missing from that episode, too. I had forgotten that. So you’re right on track! Sorry to confuse things 🙂

I lub your poems (still congested!). And I would love to try an emulate Landon’s illo as a birthday cake!!! Right? It would be fantastic!

It would make a fun birthday cake. The scattered letters could be the Happy Birthday! Feel better, Julie.

Cute! I love the concept of scattering syllables! I’m beginning to think Landon could draw anything. So. Much. Talent. I also wonder if he ever favors one drawing over another. Which one is his fav so far?

Good question, Carrie. I hope he comes over and gives us an answer!

Thanks for the great comments. My favorite drawings so far are the title drawing with the ants and the drawing with the pencil sharpener.

HA! Penny, your hai-choo is so clever and funny – love it! No wonder Landon was so inspired in his drawing. And now I’m going back to the other episodes to search for the recurring object! 😀

Thanks, Renee! I wrote this a while back for one of Michelle’s Today’s Little Ditty challenges. I love the challenge Nikki Grimes issued and have already shared mine with Michelle. Loved your lemony poem 🙂
So you found it! He is clever, isn’t he?
