It’s time for another episode of A GREAT Nephew & A GREAT Aunt. I, the GREAT Aunt, team up with Landon, the GREAT nephew, to bring you, our GREAT readers, a-picture-with-a-poem sort of thing. In each episode, I write a poem and Landon illustrates my poem. And I must mention that Landon is a fifth grader. Yes! A fifth grader drew our amazing banner! Today is Episode 4. If you missed previous episodes, you can view them by clicking below.
Episode 1: An Adventuresome Moose
Episode 2: Robot Repair
Episode 3: OUCH!
For today’s episode, I have a poem for the season and Landon’s illustration has his special touch that brings my words to life.
Episode 4: Frolicking Foliage
The Poem
The Picture

That’s one magical pencil sharpener, isn’t it? I’m going to have to ask Landon where I can get one!
Thanks to all of you who joined us for Episode 4 of A GREAT Nephew & A GREAT Aunt. See you back for Episode 5 in two weeks 🙂

It’s amazing what a good illustrator can bring to the text – something the author probably never thought of, but it adds so much. I really liked this Penny, and Landon!

I agree, Carrie! We have learned this through picture books and having my poems illustrated just drives that point home. Thanks for coming by 🙂

Hi mom tells me that he takes it and runs with it. No preliminary sketching. He knows what he’s going for and boy does he deliver!!! Thanks, Johannah!

You two make an extraordinary team. That pencil sharpener would be handy in the desert to give us falling leaf autumn. =)

Clever poem, clever illustration. Love how your rhymes frolic down the page and how Nephew’s pencil shavings become tumbling fall leaves! What a pair you are!

Love this interpretation of ‘from tree to pencil to paper to tree again!’ Landon, you have quite a strong style and voice! Penny, you make me miss northern autumn. Very lyrical. Fall is my favorite. Thanks!

I grew up in Colorado, Carrie, so I know what you mean. I’m lucky enough to be in northern Kentucky, near Cincinnati, visiting my son this weekend. It is beautiful up here!
