Christmas Contest: Christmas Bash-A-Roo

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas! And one of the most wonderful things about Christmas is Susanna Leonard Hill’s Holiday Contest! Oh, yes…most wonderful!
There are prizes! Read about the unbelievable prizes HERE. Make sure you scroll down and click on the links to read all the wonderful entries! Check the comments for entries, too. Seriously, your Christmas will be more merry if you read them.
There are rules! Below is a brief description of the rules. (The full description is HERE.)
It must start with Dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh…or a variation of that line.
It must be a story for children.
It must be 350 words or less.
And…I have a rule to go along with my 318 word story…you must sing it to the tune of Jingle Bells!!

Christmas Bash-A-Roo
by Penny Klostermann

Tromping through the pines
In their woolen socks with toes,
Yetis march in lines
Grunting Ho, Ho, Ho’s!
They meet their Sasquatch friends,
And Bigfoot buddies too.
The time is here to all attend
The Christmas Bash-A-Roo!

Oh…
Bigfoot tap, Yeti rap,
Sasquatch line dance too—
Gathered in the forest
For their Christmas Bash-A-Roo!

High up in the sky
A flash caused them to pause.
“Could this be the guy?
Could this be Santa Claus?
We’ve heard the tales of old.
We’ve heard the human lore,
But never has he joined our fold
At Christmas time before.”

Oh…
Bigfoot tap, Yeti rap,
Sasquatch line dance too—
Gathered in the forest
For their Christmas Bash-A-Roo!

They heard a Ho! Ho! Ho!
And saw a red-nosed gleam.
Coming through the snow
Was Santa and his team.
“I think we can agree—
Though sightings have been few
It can be reality—
Yes, legends can be true”.

Oh…
Bigfoot tap, Yeti rap
Sasquatch line dance too—
Gathered in the forest
For their Christmas Bash-A-Roo!

Santa flashed a grin
And said, “Hey guys, let’s bop.”
The reindeer joined right in
And did the Reindeer Hop.
He handed out sweet treats
To each and every beast.
Then said, “Let’s dance a few more beats
Before we fly on east.”

Oh…
Black-boot tap, Santa rap
Reindeer line dance too.
What a holly-jolly,
Hairy Christmas Bash-A-Roo!

Santa waved goodbye
And headed to his sleigh.
He winked a twinkling eye
As he flew away.
Oh, what a joyful night—
A Santa Claus debut.
Oh how merry! Oh how bright!
The Christmas Bash-A-Roo!

Oh…
Bigfoot tap, Yeti rap
Sasquatch line dance too—
Gathered in the forest
For their Christmas Bash-A-Roo!

Tromping through the pines
In their worn out socks with toes
Yetis march in lines
Grunting Ho, Ho, Ho’s!
They wave at Sasquatch friends
And Bigfoot buddies too.
And say, “We’ll see you all again
At next year’s Bash-A-Roo.

  2. So the Yeti was finally able to answer, “Yes Big Foot. there really is a Santa Clause. Wonderful job, Penny! My favorite is the rapping Yeti. Only you could have one myth show the existence of another. Brilliant!

  5. Oh my goodness, Penny… this is fantastic! I’m so glad I had a chance to read it– we’re taking off on a road trip so I doubt I’ll have time to read any more until next week… LOVED this, though. So original! I actually have a Yeti PB idea (one of the titles inspired by PiBoIdMo) so I especially love the theme!

      1. Hey, Penny–are we going to find out today who won the contest? Did Susanna have people voting , or were we supposed to get friends and neighbors to vote? This is my first contest. Anyway, good luck to you and the Yetis!

        1. Deborah,
We were supposed to find out today. I don’t know why it’s not up. Susanna must have had something come up because she always gets her posts up. Votes come from whoever visits the blog.
Good luck to you too! Loved your Garbage Truck, Garbage Truck!

  6. Fantastic, Penny! Who would ever have thought of mixing big foot, yetis and Sasquatch with Santa and Christmas? Only the amazing Penny! You’re rhyme and rhythm are impeccable – excellently done! – and such an entertaining story. It almost inspires me to dance, except I think the big foots and and yetis are far more graceful than I 🙂 Thanks so much for entering – I know how busy you’ve been lately! – I’m really glad you found the time 🙂

  7. As soon as I saw that you had an entry in the contest, Penny, I knew it would be fun… and I did my best at singing it, but it’s really hard to sing when you’re giggling your head off!!!! Well done! And truly unique!

    1. Thanks, Beth! I barely got it in! I am subbing full-time in Kindergarten the last few weeks, so it leaves little time for writing. I have been jotting notes at traffic lights 🙂 I have not even had time to read every entry yet! I loved yours. I remember wearing my sister’s, too-big skates!
