A to Z Poetry Challenge Day 23-Wickedness, Fickleness

I can’t believe it is April 26th, and Day 23 of Rena Traxel’s A to Z Poetry Challenge. The month is almost over and I have all these new poems! Not only me…but all who took the challenge. That’s a lot of poetry! Thank you, Rena! Today our letter is “W”. Julie Rowan-Zoch provided some inspiration with her “wicked” drawing. She is a true talent, and has been generous in her contributions to our challenge. 
 
Although my poem isn’t specifically about her picture, that evil expression got my creative juices flowing to all things evil in a fun sort-of-kid way. I had lots of errands to do today, but I had my trusty notebook and pulled over in many parking lots to jot down the next thought or idea. As I finished my day waiting for take-out for dinner…I finished my poem. I hope the cook didn’t brew up a “special” spell for me. So far, I feel the same…but I haven’t looked in the mirror. Anyway…Enjoy!
 
 
Wickedness, Fickleness
 
Wand and words of wickedness
Stir a brew of fickleness.
Croak!
Should I use spell one or two…
Spotted frog or moley shrew?
Should I use spell three or four…
Ugly warts or babbling bore?
Should I use spell five or six…
Legs of iron or arms of sticks?
Should I use spell seven or eight…
Frozen tongue or sleeping state?
Should I use spell nine or ten…
Bleating goat or clucking hen?
 
Wand and words of wickedness
Stir a brew of fickleness.
Croak!

Again…

It doesn’t matter what I choose,
Witches always seem to loose.
So, Bibbity, boppity, hit or miss—
She’ll be rescued by a kiss!
And I’ll be stirring up more brew
For princess number sixty-two!

  3. Okay, I was like everyone else. I thought, “anothpoad, is that a term for using toads in a poem?” Penny, it is so hard for me to believe that you have no formal training. It just goes to show, genius, it can’t be bought or taught. But it can be envied. Wait! I think I finally wrote my epigram. snickers.

  4. Haha. I was also about to look up anothpoads until I read below! Penny, this poem is wonderful. I like the counting and the croak! I feel bad for the witch when all she wants is to get the princess just once! For some reason this witch was a male in my head perhaps because I was thinking of Julie’s drawing. I love when I’m out doing errands and random lines pop into my head. I’ve been known to stop in the middle of aisle in the grocery store to jot something down.

    1. I really don’t know…sometimes I ask myself the same thing. I fly by the seat of my pants. I started with wicked…then wickedness and headed straight over to Rhymezone for “near rhymes”. It went from there. I ask the same question when I read all of poetry from this group and from other sites…and when I read picture books. I’m in awe of all the creativity!

      1. Catherine…what a crack up! I thought, “Oh my goodness! I don’t even know what an anothpoads is. I was getting ready to Google “anothpoads poetry”. I have had to Google so many poetry terms this month that it’s crazy…because of no formal training. So, I am so relieved to know it was spell-check…I do know about that 🙂
